ASP Security was registered in March 1987 for the purpose of selling and installing access control, alarm monitoring, CCTV, fire detection, and associated security equipment.
The company was founded by Alan Pepper, who upon arriving in South Africa in 1971, had extensive experience in the security industry. Mr. Pepper went on to join Hampo Trading and in 1974, when Hampo Trading amalgamated with Monetary Machines, joined the access control division where he specialized in the sale and distribution of Cardkey Systems equipment. From 1977 he ran the Sales Division of the company until, in 1981, Hampo Systems lost the Cardkey Agency. Mr. Pepper was asked to open Cardkey Systems SA, being responsible for sales, project management and administration. In 1983 Mr. Pepper left Cardkey Systems and, together with Basix Control Systems of California, started Basix Control Systems SA, again in the access control field of activities. However, due to sanctions, the company was forced to close down in 1987.
With such threatening sanctions in place, and the restriction of activity between South Africa and other countries, Alan Pepper decided to register ASP Security cc. As a company principle, which Mr. Pepper would later make part of the company's ethos, he stressed the use of as much locally produced and manufactured equipment as possible.
Since the early inception of the company, ASP Security cc has gone from strength to strength, now boasting an extensive client base, preferred client status with most large suppliers, and a reputation highly revered within the security industry.
